Festival Czech-In 2026
Pour sa 12ᵉ édition, Czech-In place la question de la liberté au cœur de sa programmation : comment rester libre face au pouvoir, à la mémoire et aux bouleversements du monde ?
Cette édition est marquée par un hommage à Václav Havel, dramaturge, dissident et président de la République tchécoslovaque puis tchèque, dont le festival célèbre cette année le 90ᵉ anniversaire. Figure majeure de la culture et de la vie politique européennes, Havel a toujours défendu une conception de la liberté indissociable de la responsabilité, de la création artistique et de l’engagement citoyen.
La rétrospective « Havel à l’écran » réunira six projections et deux rencontres consacrées à son parcours et à son héritage. Le programme proposera notamment Citoyen Havel, de Pavel Koutecký et Miroslav Janek, tourné pendant plus de treize ans au plus près de la présidence ; Havel, vous m’entendez ?, de Petr Jančárek, portrait intime des dernières années de sa vie ; ainsi que Sur le départ, son unique long métrage, réflexion sur la perte du pouvoir, la dignité et la responsabilité. Un débat organisé en partenariat avec la revue Esprit, accompagné de la projection de Václav Havel : Une vie en liberté, permettra également d’interroger la résonance actuelle de sa pensée et son héritage pour l’Europe contemporaine.
La programmation sera complétée par une conférence consacrée aux studios Barrandov, fondés dans les années 1930 par la famille Havel. Véritable « Hollywood de l’Europe centrale », Barrandov constitue l’un des grands symboles du cinéma tchèque et de son rayonnement international.
De Vojtěch Jasný à la jeune génération
La réflexion sur la liberté se poursuit à travers plusieurs œuvres de patrimoine et films contemporains.
En partenariat avec le Národní filmový archiv (NFA) et le Festival international du film de La Rochelle, Czech-In présentera Désir (Touha), premier long métrage de Vojtěch Jasný, œuvre annonçant l’humanisme qui nourrira la Nouvelle Vague tchécoslovaque. Son documentaire Pourquoi Havel ? sera également projeté.
Le festival rendra par ailleurs hommage à Vítězslava Kaprálová, jeune compositrice tchèque au destin exceptionnel, à travers un documentaire présenté dans le cadre d’un ciné-concert au Centre tchèque de Paris, avec les musiciens du Conservatoire Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Le cinéma contemporain face au pouvoir et à la mémoire
Plusieurs films contemporains prolongeront ces interrogations.Broken Voices explore les mécanismes de domination et d’emprise qui peuvent se cacher derrière les exigences de l’excellence artistique. Cendres (Popel) interroge les traces du passé dans les vies contemporaines, tandis que Dead Language fait dialoguer identités, cultures et mémoires à travers une rencontre inattendue.
Une nouvelle génération de cinéastes européens
Le traditionnel programme de courts métrages, conçu en partenariat avec la FAMU, la VŠMU et KINETRACES, donnera la parole à une nouvelle génération de cinéastes européens. Fiction, documentaire, animation et expérimentation témoigneront de la diversité des formes et des préoccupations qui traversent aujourd’hui le cinéma d’Europe centrale.
Le documentaire Mme la Présidente, consacré au mandat de Zuzana Čaputová, sera reprogrammé après son succès lors de l’édition 2025, où il avait reçu la Marguerite d’or du meilleur film. Cette année encore, un jury de professionnels choisira, parmi les films programmés, celui qui recevra ce prix.
Le jury 2026 réunit Andrea Salajová, écrivaine franco-slovaque, Laurent Coulon, ancien attaché audiovisuel à l’ambassade de France à Prague, Bertrand Schmitt, écrivain et cinéaste, Garance Fromont, doctorante et spécialiste du cinéma tchécoslovaque et Adrien Fondecave, programmateur de cinéma.
Czech-In au-delà du festival
Le festival se prolongera également par plusieurs projections et rencontres satellites. En janvier 2027, en partenariat avec l’INALCO, une rencontre sera consacrée à Anna Kareninová, grande figure de la traduction littéraire et cinématographique entre le tchèque et le français. Un documentaire consacré à son travail sera suivi d’un échange avec la traductrice.
Entre patrimoine restauré, création contemporaine et réflexion sur le pouvoir, la liberté et la responsabilité, la 12ᵉ édition affirme une conviction fondatrice du festival : le cinéma demeure l’un des espaces privilégiés où une société peut interroger son histoire, comprendre son présent et imaginer son avenir.

12th edition: Cinema Facing Freedom
For its 12th edition, the Czech-In Film Festival places the question of freedom at the heart of its programme: How can we remain free in the face of power, memory and the upheavals of the contemporary world?
This year’s edition is marked by a tribute to Václav Havel, playwright, dissident and President of Czechoslovakia and later the Czech Republic, whose 90th birthday is being celebrated this year. One of the most influential figures in European culture and political life, Havel consistently defended a vision of freedom inseparable from responsibility, artistic creation and civic engagement.
“Havel on Screen” Retrospective
The retrospective “Havel on Screen” will feature six screenings and two events devoted to his life, work and legacy.
The programme will include Citizen Havel, directed by Pavel Koutecký and Miroslav Janek, filmed over more than thirteen years at close range during Havel’s presidency; Havel, Can You Hear Me?, by Petr Jančárek, an intimate portrait of the final years of his life; and Leaving, Havel’s only feature film, a reflection on the loss of power, dignity and personal responsibility.
A debate organised in partnership with the French cultural review Esprit, accompanied by a screening of Václav Havel: A Life in Freedom, will provide an opportunity to explore the continuing relevance of Havel’s ideas and his legacy for contemporary Europe.
The programme will also include a conference devoted to Barrandov Studios, founded in the 1930s by the Havel family. Often described as the “Hollywood of Central Europe”, Barrandov is one of the major symbols of Czech cinema and its international reputation.
From Vojtěch Jasný to a New Generation of Filmmakers
The theme of freedom continues through a selection of heritage films and contemporary works.
In partnership with the National Film Archive (NFA) and the La Rochelle International Film Festival, Czech-In will present a restored version of Desire (Touha), the first feature film by Vojtěch Jasný, a work that already foreshadows the humanism that would later become one of the defining characteristics of the Czechoslovak New Wave. His documentary Why Havel? will also be screened.
The festival will also pay tribute to Vítězslava Kaprálová, the young Czech composer whose remarkable life was cut short. A documentary dedicated to her life and work will be presented as part of a ciné-concert at the Czech Centre in Paris, featuring musicians from the Jean-Philippe Rameau Conservatory.
Contemporary Cinema Facing Power and Memory
These questions will be further explored through a selection of contemporary films.
Broken Voices examines mechanisms of domination and control that can hide behind the pursuit of artistic excellence. Ashes (Popel) explores the traces of the past in contemporary lives, while Dead Language brings questions of identity, culture and memory into focus through an unexpected encounter.
A New Generation of European Filmmakers
The festival’s traditional short film programme, organised in partnership with FAMU, VŠMU and KINETRACES, will showcase a new generation of European filmmakers. Fiction, documentary, animation and experimental cinema will highlight the diversity of forms and concerns shaping Central European cinema today.
The documentary Madam President, devoted to the presidential mandate of Zuzana Čaputová, returns to the programme following its success at the 2025 festival, where it received the Golden Daisy for Best Film.
This year again, a professional jury will select, from among the films in the programme, the recipient of the award.
The 2026 Jury
The jury brings together Andrea Salajová, Franco-Slovak writer, Laurent Coulon, former audiovisual attaché at the Embassy of France in Prague, Bertrand Schmitt, writer and filmmaker, Garance Fromont, PhD candidate and specialist in Czechoslovak cinema, and Adrien Fondecave, film programmer.
Czech-In Beyond the Festival
The festival will also continue beyond its main dates through a series of satellite screenings and events.
In January 2027, in partnership with INALCO, an event will be dedicated to Anna Kareninová, a major figure in literary and film translation between Czech and French. A documentary about her work will be followed by a discussion with the translator.
From restored classics to contemporary cinema, and from reflections on power and memory to questions of freedom and responsibility, the 12th edition of the Czech-In Film Festival reaffirms one of the festival’s founding convictions: cinema remains one of the privileged spaces in which a society can examine its past, understand its present and imagine its future.

12. ročník: Kino tváří v tvář svobodě
Ve svém 12. ročníku staví Festival Czech-In do centra programu otázku svobody: Jak si uchovat svobodu tváří v tvář moci, paměti a proměnám současného světa?
Letošní ročník je zároveň věnován Václavu Havlovi, dramatikovi, disidentovi a prezidentovi Československa a později České republiky, jehož 90. výročí narození si letos připomínáme. Havel, jedna z nejvýraznějších osobností evropské kultury a politického života, vždy hájil pojetí svobody, které je neoddělitelně spjato s odpovědností, uměleckou tvorbou a občanskou angažovaností.
Retrospektiva „Havel na plátně“
Retrospektiva „Havel na plátně“ nabídne šest projekcí a dvě setkání věnovaná jeho životu, tvorbě a odkazu.
Program uvede Občana Havla režisérů Pavla Kouteckého a Miroslava Janka, který více než třináct let zachycoval Václava Havla z bezprostřední blízkosti během jeho prezidentského působení. Havel, slyšíte mě? režiséra Petra Jančárka přináší intimní portrét posledních let jeho života. Promítneme také Odcházení, jediný celovečerní film Václava Havla, který otevírá otázky ztráty moci, důstojnosti a osobní odpovědnosti.
Debata připravená ve spolupráci s francouzskou kulturní revue Esprit, doplněná projekcí dokumentu Václav Havel: Život podle Václava Havla, nabídne prostor k zamyšlení nad aktuálností Havlových myšlenek a jeho odkazem pro současnou Evropu.
Program doplní také přednáška věnovaná filmovým studiím Barrandov, která byla ve 30. letech založena rodinou Havlových. Barrandov, často označovaný za „Hollywood střední Evropy“, patří k významným symbolům české kinematografie a jejího mezinárodního renomé.
Od Vojtěcha Jasného k nové generaci filmařů
Téma svobody se dále rozvíjí prostřednictvím filmů z filmového dědictví i současné tvorby.
Ve spolupráci s Národním filmovým archivem (NFA) a Mezinárodním filmovým festivalem La Rochelle uvede Czech-In restaurovaný film Touha, první celovečerní snímek Vojtěcha Jasného, který již předznamenává humanismus, jenž se později stal jedním z charakteristických rysů československé nové vlny. Součástí programu bude také jeho dokumentární film Proč Havel?
Festival zároveň připomene osobnost Vítězslavy Kaprálové, mladé české skladatelky s mimořádným, avšak krátkým životem. Dokumentární film věnovaný jejímu životu a tvorbě bude uveden v rámci filmového koncertu v Českém centru v Paříži, za účasti hudebníků z Conservatoire Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Současný film tváří v tvář moci a paměti
Tyto otázky budou dále rozvíjet vybrané současné filmy.
Sbormistr se zaměřuje na mechanismy dominance a manipulace, které se mohou skrývat za požadavkem umělecké dokonalosti. Popel zkoumá stopy minulosti v životech současných lidí, zatímco Dead Language otevírá prostřednictvím nečekaného setkání otázky identity, kultury a paměti.
Nová generace evropských filmařů
Tradiční program krátkých filmů, připravený ve spolupráci s FAMU, VŠMU a KINETRACES, představí novou generaci evropských filmařů. Hraný film, dokument, animace i experiment nabídnou pohled na rozmanité formy a témata, která dnes prostupují kinematografií střední Evropy.
Dokument Prezidentka, věnovaný prezidentskému mandátu Zuzany Čaputové, se do programu vrací po úspěchu na festivalu v roce 2025, kde získal Zlatou sedmikrásku za nejlepší film.
Také letos porota filmových profesionálů vybere z filmů uvedených v programu snímek, který toto ocenění získá.

Czech-In i mimo hlavní festivalové dny
Festival bude pokračovat také prostřednictvím série satelitních projekcí a setkání.
V lednu 2027 se ve spolupráci s INALCO uskuteční setkání věnované Anně Kareninové, významné osobnosti českého literárního a filmového překladu. Po projekci dokumentárního filmu věnovaného její práci bude následovat diskuse s překladatelkou.
Od restaurovaných filmových děl přes současnou tvorbu až po reflexi moci, paměti, svobody a odpovědnosti potvrzuje 12. ročník Festivalu Czech-In jedno ze základních přesvědčení festivalu: film zůstává jedním z významných prostorů, v němž může společnost nahlížet svou minulost, porozumět své přítomnosti a představovat si svou budoucnost.
